Three divisions, one community.
The Gordon School is dedicated to providing an exceptional Hebrew and Judaic studies curriculum combined with a strong general studies program within a single framework creating a supportive learning environment which nurtures the intellectual, social, and emotional growth of each child.
Our core values Kehila (community), Derech Eretz (respect), and Torah Lishma (a love of learning), are put at the center of everything we do, inspiring confidence, creativity, and individuality in our students. Presented through hands-on, project-based learning our curriculum is enhanced through STEAM activities infusing critical thinking creating a unique 21st century learner experience. This approach fuels creativity, with students getting out of their chairs, mapping projects on white-board walls, and building. They are active learners and designers – and they have fun doing it. With the addition of physical education, art, music, Spanish, Hebrew, and Judaic classes, the Gordon Day School approach to education is successful in creating the delicate balance between fun and learning.

Preparing your child for success begins in Kindergarten and continues as your child moves up through each grade. The Gordon School English Language Arts curriculum is Florida B.E.S.T. (Benchmarks For Excellent Student Thinking) standard aligned. These standards emphasize: explicit and systematic phonics instruction, critical thinking skills, a deep respect for literature from historic time periods, and knowledge building through content-rich texts.
Through our comprehensive literacy based program, students are exposed to books and stories in a variety of genres including realistic fiction, informational text, and poetry. This early exposure introduces students to text-based comprehension skills and strategies such as identifying main ideas, author’s purpose, characterization, and cause and effect.
Our students will engage in literacy learning with relevant and diverse texts and media to allow them to see themselves reflected in the stories and develop their own voice as they build knowledge and participate in the broader conversation. Students analyze texts through the eyes of a reader and writer and have academic discussions. They work on group projects, create their own compositions, and complete rigorous Performance-Based Assessments.
Reading and writing are reciprocal. As students develop reading skills, they transfer those skills to the writing arena, and vice-versa. This integrated approach to reading and writing ensures students become confident and skilled communicators.
Developed through a rich collaboration with Florida-based math education experts,Mathematics at the Gordon School is Florida B.E.S.T. (Benchmarks For Excellent Student Thinking) standard aligned with an emphasis placed on building a strong foundation in developing number sense and numerical literacy through problem solving, reasoning, and discussing mathematical ideas.
Our program provides a cohesive, coherent, and rigorous mathematics curriculum that encourages students to become strategic thinkers and problem solvers. By showcasing the precise language of the Florida benchmarks, learning targets and success criteria support and align to those Florida-specific expectations, giving students clarity around lesson goals and closing the rigor gap by empowering students to grow and thrive in their unique scholastic ways. In every lesson, students engage in all aspects of rigor: conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application.
Multiple strategies are incorporated to assist students in developing targeted skills and concepts through the use of concrete manipulatives, visualization, algebraic thinking, number bonds, and mental math. Every child develops at their own pace and utilizing a variety of methods to demonstrate their mathematical knowledge through reasoning and problem solving are age-specific activities for growing young minds. Problem solving and writing to explain mathematical thinking and concepts are an integral component of the math curriculum.
Studying multiple languages early in life benefits children’s linguistic thinking and their ability to learn new languages later on. Gordon School Day School students learn to read, write, and speak both Spanish and Hebrew starting in Kindergarten with the goal of achieving fluency by 6th grade. Our innovative Spanish and Hebrew program is an approach that encourages authentic usage through relevant content. By incorporating music, play and human emotion, language is integrated into everyday life. This dual-language experience helps children navigate a world where it is increasingly critical to communicate, work and co-exist- giving students an edge in an increasingly competitive academic and professional environment. Gordon School students leave with the best of modern education and Jewish tradition; confident risk-takers who connect to their past and are ready to take on the world.
We believe that Jewish wisdom and tradition gives our students the grounding and perspective to deal with every life situation. It is the greatest gift we can give them, as it inspires joy, meaning, and a sense of purpose.
The goal of our Judaic Studies curriculum is to transmit a comprehensive knowledge of Judaism and to develop strong values. Children experience Jewish traditions, Shabbat and holidays, study Torah text, and the history of the Jewish people. We learn through the lens of ‘To See the World Through Jewish Eyes.”
The Gordon School Day School believes in STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Math) and the vast career opportunities it holds for our students. Students starting in kindergarten are immersed into the engineering process developing critical thinking and problem solving skills while exploring and discovering the natural world around them. Our innovation lab accommodates a wide range of activities, tools and materials, and provides hands-on experiences for students as they design, experiment, and invent.
Art and music classes at the Gordon School Day School allow students to discover their gifts and nurture their creativity. Our teachers provide challenging but fun learning experiences that enhance students' academic performance as well as the Judaic culture. Art and music are part of our K-6 curriculum.
Data analysis can provide a snapshot of what students know, what they should know, and what can be done to meet their academic needs. With appropriate analysis and interpretation of data, educators can make informed decisions that affect student outcomes. This is why the Gordon School uses tools like the i-Ready Assessment throughout the year to determine what students know and are able to do, monitor student progress, and create an instructional growth plan to support students' needs.
i-Ready is an online program aligned with Florida's B.E.S.T. standards that help determine your child’s strengths and areas for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor their progress throughout the school year. i-Ready consists of two parts: Diagnostic and Personalized Instruction.
Students will take the iReady assessment three times throughout the year in order to monitor their progress and growth. The first Diagnostic of the school year assists teachers in charting a course for their instruction and drives i-Ready Personalized Instruction paths for each student. A midyear and end-of-year Diagnostic helps students and teachers measure growth and have constructive data chats about progress and goals. Teacher-led and personalized instruction continue throughout the year, addressing class and individual needs, while i-Ready Standards Mastery helps teachers determine students’ mastery of grade-level standards.
One of the most important skills of the 21st century is digital literacy.Technology at the Gordon School is used as a tool to enhance the learning experience that is exciting and engaging to students. The Gordon School Day School is a Google School, using Google Apps, a free suite of hosted email and collaboration applications available exclusively for schools. Students use Google Drive to create cloud-based documents that can be shared with teachers or fellow students, allowing for collaboration. These documents are accessible wherever there is Internet access, allowing for easier transition between school and home. As the students become more comfortable with Google Apps, they expand their Google portfolios to include documents, spreadsheets, slides, and drawings. Students are taught how to safely and effectively surf the Internet, as well as how to evaluate the veracity of a website. Our digital citizenship curriculum provides students with the scaffolding they need to develop a good online reputation and become good digital citizens, while at the same time, protect themselves online. Each student has access to using an individual digital Chromebook throughout the day to enhance their learning experience; technology education goes hand-in-hand with our overall approach to a broad-based educational experience. Each classroom has a Clear Touch interactive display board for the teacher and student to use to enhance their overall educational environment.
At the Gordon School, our approach to focus on the whole child is a core value. We foster the values of kindness, self-awareness, and character within our students, nurturing them to be mindful critical thinkers. We provide a multi-faceted whole-child development program that includes social emotional learning and positive education.
Our social emotional learning or SEL supports the school’s whole-child development within the classroom. Weekly class lessons are designed to be developmentally focused with topics tailored to each class’s needs, from personal space and being a good friend to preparing for middle school and setting goals utilizing a hands-on approach for real world situations.
The Torah teaches that we must find the positive in each child and help our student develop his or her strength. At the Gordon School, our teachers use Positive Behavior Support (PBS) tools such as Positive Narration, Modeling, and Hierarchical Rewards in order to build a culture of positivity in our classrooms. The PBS is a system is to help students work hard in the classroom and achieve awards within the school.
Students in grades K-5 work for weeks to write, illustrate, and bind their own pieces of creative writing. They then present their publications at an annual Publishing Party for parents, special friends and senior administrators. This process brings writing to life for them, and our teachers incorporate various facets of the curriculum into the creative writing and publishing experience.
The experience of preparing for and presenting original works at an early age enriches our student’s experience in a myriad of ways. They enter the world of literature as authors – not just readers. They become excited and engaged in language arts as a creator, not just a bystander. Our teachers spend hours working one-on-one with each student to bring out his/her unique potential. Students learn the hard work, effort and discipline required to prepare a product that they are proud and excited to present.

The Early Childhood Center (ECC) provides unique opportunities for emotional, social, creative, physical and cognitive development of each child within a Jewish environment. A warm, loving atmosphere permeates the center. We embrace the entire family as the children embark on their first educational journey from 3 months through Pre-Kindergarten.
